Boston-based Apple Specialist Tech Superpowers Inc. is expanding its free NewburyOpen.net wireless network today in a rather unusual way — the company is featuring an AirPort-powered “Wireless Car” in front of J.P. Licks at 352 Newbury St. in Boston’s Back Bay.
NewburyOpen.net is a corporate-sponsored wireless Internet access service created by Tech Superpowers and offered to Newbury St. area businesses. The company is using its Wireless Car as a promotional vehicle (if you’ll pardon the pun) to help get the word out about its service both to area businesses and to users who don’t already know.
“Wireless is about freedom — no walls, no charges — and the wireless business model of the future does not charge $14/hour. Wireless is for everyone, not just for the rich,” said the company.
If you’re within 150 feet of the car, you can get free wireless Internet access and what’s more, Tech Superpowers has put the word out for PowerBook and iBook users to stop on by — if you drop in, you’ll get coupons for discounts on Apple stuff from Tech Superpowers as well.
What’s more, on September 3, Tech Superpowers will be releasing a “how-to” guide on building open networks that details the technical specifications of NewburyOpen.net, to help promote their Open Network concept.
NewburyOpen.net now includes Newbury Street merchants Trident Booksellers and Cafe, The Wrap, and Tech Superpowers’ own Internet Cafe.
