today announced new DataLifePlus 16x-24x certified Ultra Speed CD-RW discs. The company said the discs have been tested and qualified by manufacturers of 24x drives.
Verbatim said that the development of Advanced Super Eutectic Recording Layer (Advanced-SERL) and a new recording method are the reasons why Verbatim is “the first and only manufacturer” so far that’s capable of making “Ultra Speed” 16x-24x CD-RW media. Advanced-SERL is a new recording layer that reduces media noise during erase/rewrite cycles and ensures erasability at high speeds. The new recording method, called 2T Writing Strategy, overcomes a limitation in conventional recording technology that guarantees the stability of the recorded mark. Verbatim noted that 2T Writing Strategy has been proposed as the standard for 24x CD-RW recording and is gaining support from drive and IC makers.
The new discs are compliant with Orange Book Part III Volume 3 specifications, and work well with “Mt Rainier”-compliant CD-RW burners. Their archival life is rated at more than 30 years and should work for more than 1,000 overwrites.
The new 16x-24x CD-RW media hit stores next month in singles and multipacks starting at US$1.49 per disc.
