United Developers subsidiary MacPlay today announced that its Macintosh conversion of Soldier of Fortune II: Double Helix is shipping to retailers and to those gamers who pre-ordered the title directly from MacPlay.
Developed for the PC by Raven Software, Soldier of Fortune II is a modern military action game based on the same core engine technology that drives Quake III Arena. The game features numerous embellishments from Raven, including per-pixel damage modeling and a random mission generator that enables you create millions of different missions both for single and multiplayer games. The game was converted to the Macintosh by The Omni Group and is available for Mac OS X only.
In Soldier of Fortune II, you are a mercenary hired by a covert group to complete a variety of different missions in exotic spots around the world. Sometimes you’ll have to use stealth and strategy, and sometimes you’ll have to rely on firepower. To that end, you’ll be equipped with the latest and greatest arsenal today’s military minds have to offer in order to complete your missions.
In related news, GameRanger developer Scott Kevill today announced that Soldier of Fortune II is now supported by his game-finding service. GameRanger users will automatically get the plug-in when they next connect to the service, if they have not done so already. GameRanger is a Mac-only game service that enables you to join or serve your own online games.
