Xerox Corp. has a new black-and-white printer, the US$999 Phaser 4400, that’s compatible with Mac OS 8.x, 9.x and OS X (10.1 and higher).
The printer offers true 1200 dpi resolution at a full rated speed of 26 ppm and Adobe PostScript 3. Xerox says it’s “the fastest of any comparable printer in its class.” The Phaser 4400 has a high-speed 266MHz controller, a total standard paper input of 650 sheets, duplex capability and paper handling with custom-size media support up to 8.5 x 14 inches.
Other features include: 64MB of memory standard on network models; 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet, USB and parallel connectivity; a “CentreWare Web” for enterprise-wide printer management; the “Printing Scout” that alerts you to low toner, low paper, or other potential printing delays; paper handling weights up to 133-pound card stock and custom media sizes; and edge-to-edge printing for electronic forms and mainframe reports. The Phaser 4400 comes with a one-year, free onsite service warranty.
