Formac Electronic Inc. has released a new version of its DVD software, Formac devideon. The software is designed to work with Formac’s own proprietary DVD authoring system.

Compatible with Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, the FireWire-based devideon works with G3 and G4-based systems, including the PowerBook, iBook and iMac. The mechanism itself is a DVD-R/RW and CD-R/RW combo drive.
The new update to the devideon software improves encoding speed by up to 30 percent, according to Formac. It’s also been updated to support SuperVideoCD (SVCD) format.
The software is shipping with new devideon packages now; it’s also available for download from Formac’s Web site.
