Following the introduction of other Lasso 6 products earlier this month, Bellvue, Wa.-based Blue World Communications Inc. today announced that it’s now shipping Lasso Professional 6, the latest major upgrade to its Web application server. The new version supports new industry standards, adds new features and works natively on Mac OS X 10.2, “Jaguar.”

Lasso Professional 6 adds a JDBC connector for Microsoft SQL Server 2000, and supports the use of JDBC drivers for other data servers including Oracle, Sybase, 4D and more. PDF tags are supported and PDF files can be created within Lasso and served. XML data can also be parsed and manipulated within Lasso; XSLT style sheets can be applied to XML documents.
Additionally, Lasso Professional 6 supports XML Remote Procedure Call (XML-RPC) for incoming and outgoing requests, enabling it to communicate with other Web application servers. It also communicates with remote SSL servers and supports FTP uploads and downloads.
There’s more, too. Lasso Professional 6 has re-implemented date tags as a new data type within member tags, and recognizes U.S. and international date formats natively. Millisecond timing is now available, and date calculations have been simplified. The software also supports full text searching, regular expression searching, and searching for distinct values within MySQL databases.
The list goes on quite extensively — a PDF file containing all the new features of Lasso Professional 6 is available for FTP download now.
Lasso Professional 6 is available for online purchase and download from the Blue World e-store for US$1,199. A boxed edition is also available for $1,299. Upgrades from earlier versions are available (including Lasso Web Data Engine 3.x, whose sales and support is winding down ); free upgrades are available for Lasso Pro 5 users who bought since September 4.
If you’d like to kick the tires before you put down your money, a 30-day evaluation version is available for download.
