FileMaker Inc. will preview its new FileMaker Mobile 2.1 at DEMOmobile 2002, the annual gathering of technology executives held Sept. 18-20. The new mobile database software, which adds support for the Pocket PC 2002 operating system and for bar code scanning, will ship on Sept. 30.
FileMaker Mobile 2.1 lets you transfer and synchronize data between FileMaker Pro databases on desktop computers and handheld Palm OS or Pocket PC devices. FileMaker Mobile 2.1 is compatible with FileMaker Pro 6 and 5.5 v2 and runs on handhelds with Pocket PC 2002, Palm OS 3.1 or greater and desktop computers with Mac OS 8.1 and up, including Mac OS X (though Mac OS X use requires Palm HotSync Manager 3.0).
PocketMac, from Information Appliance Associates, is a native Mac-sync tool that will allow you to sync your Mac directly with a Pocket PC device via USB. It’s not been released yet, but is “coming soon.” PocketMac will be Mac OS X compatible and will come in a regular edition and professional version.
