Reuters reported that General Magic Inc. will close its doors at the end of business today. The company’s core investors included Apple.
General Magic was founded in 1990 to develop operating systems for PDAs, and has since evolved into a developer of voice infrastructure products, including technology used in General Motors’ OnStar automotive voice command system.
General Magic announced it was closing its doors as a result of its inability to finance or complete a merger or acquisition, according to Reuters. Most General Magic employees will be let go immediately, though some will remain on hand to manage assets, resolve debt and transition the OnStar-related technology to another vendor.
