Pixar Animation Studios Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs announced today that Monsters Inc., the box office smash hit from Pixar and Disney, set a new record for DVD sales.
The Monsters Inc. DVD sold 5 million copies in its first day of sales, breaking the previous record of 4.5 million copies sold, which was held by The Lion King.
“We’re thrilled!” said Jobs. “Pixar and Disney pulled out all of the stops on this one — with the new animated short ‘Mike’s New Car,’ the unique Human and Monster worlds on the DVD, and the stunning image quality that results from being completely digital from computer to DVD.”
Monsters Inc., which features the voices of John Goodman and Billy Crystal, was nominated for four Academy Awards including Best Animated Feature Film.
