Watsonville, Calif.-based utility software maker Aladdin Systems, Inc. today released StuffIt Deluxe 7.0, the latest major upgrade to their ubiquitous compression software.
The new version introduces the StuffIt X (pronounced “ex”) file format, which combines compression and security. It adds 512 bit encryption, up to 30 percent better compression than other formats, error correction, support for larger archive sizes, and support for long file names.
Aladdin also noted that StuffIt Deluxe includes integration with Microsoft Word (both in Office 2001 and Office v.X), which provides Word users with fast access to the Stuff and Mail feature.
Other new features include OS X Finder support with keyboard shortcuts, support for OS X command line tools, a new user interface for beginners, and much more.
StuffIt Deluxe works with Mac OS 8.6 and later (including Mac OS X 10.2, “Jaguar”). It costs US$79.99. Registered owners of previous versions of StuffIt Deluxe and certain other Aladdin products can upgrade for $29.99. Customers who bought StuffIt Deluxe 6.51 after August 19, 2002 can upgrade for free.
