Parker Software Development Inc. has updated NewsHunter, their usenet newsgroup utility, to version 2.0.5.
In version 2.0.5, the Friend Filter mechanism now works properly. You no longer have to turn off all other filters in order to activate a Friend Filter, according to Mike Trivisonno of Parker Software.
The Default Folder preferences have also been improved, he said. Earlier releases allowed you to alter the location of certain folders that NewsHunter uses to download and process files. For example, you could configure NewsHunter to save decoded files to a location you choose instead of the default location that’s inside the same folder as your NewsHunter application. However, if you modified this in the Preferences window, only newly added newsgroups would save files to the new location. NewsHunter 2.0.5 alters this behavior so that when you alter the default location, all current newsgroups inherit the new location as well.
There have also been database improvements. Though users won’t notice anything different, the changes will allow a more orderly introduction of new features in the future, Trivisonno said.
The new version is a free upgrade to current owners; for new users, registration is US$49.95. It can be downloaded from the Parker Software Web site. Also, NewsHunter and ArcherPro (a multimedia viewer for Mac OS X that lets you combine still images, audio and video files into the same slideshow) are available in a special combination package of $24.97 through the end of the month.
