Berlin, Germany-based musical instrument software developer Native Instruments has announced the release of an update to its virtual analog synthesizer, Pro-52. Now called Pro-53, the software features new functions and improvements.
Part of NI’s “Vintage Line,” Pro-53 was developed for musicians looking to add to their arsenal the warm tones of a vintage analog synthesizer from the 1980s. It’s available both for Mac OS (Classic) and Windows and sports two oscillators per voice, with a choice of pulse, triangle and sawtooth waveforms. Oscillator detune and synchronization is supported, and much more.

The new version of the software now provides a warmer sound thanks to a new oscillator technology. A High-Pass Filter mode has been added, along with invertible filter envelops and a retrigger option for envelopes. A MIDI Learn function now makes it more convenient to integrate hardware MIDI controllers, along with an option to load controller maps. The graphical interface has been optimized and 64 new sounds have been added as well.
System requirements call for Mac OS 8.6 or higher, G3/266MHz or faster, 64MB RAM. Mac interfaces supported include VST 2.0, DirectConnect, MAS, FreeMidi, ASIO and Sound Manager.
The update is available for free to Pro-52 users; the software will prompt you for the original CD-ROM that Pro-52 shipped on for update authorization. More details are available from the Pro-53 Updates Web page.
