Apple’s Games site turns its attention this week to Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, the newest game from Aspyr Media. Brad Cook has done a preview of the game complete with tips and tricks, screenshots, and more goodies. Aspyr announced earlier this week that Ghost Recon had gone “gold master,” the last step before the game goes into production.

Ghost Recon is a squad-based strategic action game in which you take control of the Ghosts, an elite reconnaissance unit sent to dangerous spots in Russia and East Africa to defuse situations before they become world conflicts. It was originally developed by Red Storm Entertainment, the game studio owned by techno-thriller author Tom Clancy.
Aspyr’s Mac release of Ghost Recon is technically the “Game of the Year Edition,” which includes the original Ghost Recon along with an expansion pack called Desert Siege. “It just made more sense to give Mac gamers more bang for the buck by including the expansion pack in the box,” Aspyr’s Amy Torres told Cook.
Red Storm favors as much realism as possible, which is why this is no first person shooter. You have to carefully plan your missions and execute them flawlessly to succeed. You’ll have an arsenal of realistic weapons at your fingertips, too, and the game sports an impressive level of detail. “We even research things down to what the local wildlife is so we can get the right incidental bird calls in the backgrounds of our missions,” said Red Storm’s Richard Dansky.
