Introduced at Macworld Expo in New York this past July, El Gato’s EyeTV is a USB-based peripheral that enables you use your Mac as a TV, complete with a free Web-based programmable channel guide (in the US).
The EyeTV is equipped with a coaxial antenna connection and composite video input (along with stereo audio input). Users can view TV signals live or record them to hard disk for later viewing. With Roxio’s Toast Titanium software, you can also burn the content to CD in Video CD format. It works with Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later and retails for US$199.
El Gato marketing director Victor Nemechek explained the significance of the announcement. “As a small Mac-only manufacturer, getting products into the channel is difficult. We are excited to have Dr. Bott helping us get EyeTV to Apple resellers and into the hands of customers quickly and effectively,” he said.
The EyeTV is available through Dr. Bott’s network of resellers in North America. Additional reseller inquiries are welcome.
