K4 links InDesign and InCopy withe a SQL database to provide a collaborative workflow system suitable for individual workgroups and publishing enterprises. Capabilities include check-in and check-out of content, simultaneity between layout and editorial, copy editing at the page stage, and much more.
The new version of K4 now alerts editors when the layout for their articles has change. It also alerts editors when other articles in the layout have been modified by other editors. Editors can then reconcile their copies to have the latest page content available for fine-tuning.
K4 4.1 also adds one-click check out of all or selected articles and text frames belong to the same layout as one InCopy document. This is a time-saver for doing final corrections or closing out mages, according to MEI.
K4 Publishing System 4.1 works on Mac OS 9 and X and various flavors of Windows. The SQL database service runs on Mac OS X Server, Windows, Linux, and other platforms. Users are encourage to contact their MEI sales rep for more details. More info about K4 are available from MEI’s Web site.
