Asanté Technologies Inc., a provider of network solutions, showcased its new USB memory reader/writer — the US$40 FriendlyNET Gini UMR106 — at this past Tuesday’s Mac Solutions Expo in Bloomington, Minneapolis.

The UMR106 supports Sony Memory Stick, CompactFlash, IBM Microdrive, SmartMedia, MMC, and SD digital media. You can use it to copy between different media as the FriendlyNET Gini UMR106 has four slots.
The USB memory reader and writer is Mac OS X compatible. The drivers built into the operating system treat each memory card as a removable drive, so you can just drag files to copy them to a local hard drive with the need for special applications, said Rusty Callihan, Asanté vice president of sales.
Also at the Mac Solutions Expo, Asanté will feature its new FriendlyNET FB114, a USB 4-port slimline hub that provides four downstream ports plus one upstream port to connect up to four USB devices simultaneously with a portable or home computer. It works with Mac OS 8.6 and up, including Mac OS X.
