Comparing the 15 inch flat panel iMac against three other offerings Windows-compatible offerings, PC Magazine has named Apple’s iMac its Editors’ Choice. Among those machines that Apple beats is Gateway’s new all-in-one system, the Profile 4. (In advertising and comparative literature Gateway takes aim at the iMac.)
“The iMac isn’t just about hip style — it’s a bold reminder of Apple’s ability to design simple-to-set-up computers and bundle essential and appealing applications,” the magazine writes. “Whether you find the design aesthetically pleasing or not, the iMac, with its 15-inch flat-panel display (a 17-inch display is also available) perched atop a stem, akin to a funky flower pot, makes a lasting impression.”
PC Magazine gives the iMac four out of five stars. In ranking consumer desktops, the Apple system beat out the following runners-up: the Gateway Profile 4 XL, the Gateway 700XL, and the Voodoo F-550 Imola Orange 2200+.
