Buena Software Inc., a company that makes tools for creating and editing video and images on Macs, has released Effect Essentials for Final Cut Pro, a set of 10 effect plug-ins for use with Apple’s high-end video editing software. The package is compatible with Final Cut Pro 3.0 or later running on Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X and includes the following filters:
Super RGB Curves, a RGB Curves plug-in that lets you zoom in on the curve, set exact points and more; HSV Curves, a color manipulation tool that allows you to change individual colors to other colors, correct colors, or remove certain colors from your video; Frame Manipulator, a tool for turning one aspect of your video into another, such as having the audio volume control the amount of blur applied; Edge Manipulator, a tool for applying effects only to the edges of objects in your scene; Feedback, which simulates a video feedback loop, similar to pointing a video camera at the monitor which is displaying its output; HSV Manipulator, which lets you apply a blur or median only to areas that contain a specific color; Digital Interference, which simulates various types of digital corruption, such as skips, stutters, and blockiness; Camera Flash, which creates a flashbulb effect; Pixel Manipulator, a tool for turning one aspect of the pixels in your scene into another, such as having the distance from a chosen point control the amount of saturation; Radial Glow, a tool to create radiating or halo-like lighting effects. Effect Essentials are being offered for an introductory price of US$199 through Nov. 1 and $249 afterward. A time-limited demo, which includes the Camera Flash plug-in, can be downloaded at the
