Apple has announced the iStudent lease program for UK students. The program allows participants to rent iBooks and PowerBooks for one, two or three years. Once the rental period is up, students have the option of buying the laptop for £50. Rental costs, of course, depend on the rental period and the equipment being used.
The iStudent program is a partnership between educational institutions, Apple Education and Apple Financial Services. Students can join at the beginning of each term or semester, as determined by the institution. An optional AirPort Card and/or AirPort Base Station can be included with the rented Apple laptops.
The AppleCare Protection Plan, which offers up to three years of Apple-certified service and support, is also included in the rental package. Also, an insurance package provided by CPU Insurance Services comes with each rental agreement. It covers the rented Apple systems for repairs or replacing in case problems arise.
