Microsoft Corp. on Monday pulled a Windows XP switch ad from the company’s Web site after they revealed the testimonial was actually from a paid freelance writer.
Similar to Apple’s own Switch campaign, which started earlier this year, the Microsoft XP switch testimonial portrayed a person that successfully switched from a Mac to a PC.
“Yes, it’s true. I like the Microsoft Windows XP operating system enough to change my whole computing world around,” the article read. “Here’s the bottom line: Windows XP gives me more choices and flexibility, and better compatibility with the rest of the technology world.
“To my surprise, the process of switching was as easy as the marketing hype had promised. I was up and running in less than one day, Girl Scout’s honor.”
In a CNET news article last night, Microsoft said the article was a “mistake in judgment” and they “regret the action.” The company also said they have no plans for a Mac to PC switch campaign.
