CMS Peripherals announced on Thursday an update to the company’s ABSPlus backup solution, making it compatible with Mac OS X 10.2.

The ABSPlus system allows customers to boot directly from an external backup drive — CMS said their solution is the first one to allow this functionality in Jaguar. The backup made with ABSPlus also maintains file and folder permissions, as well as multiple user accounts.
The automated backup works by simply plugging the drive into the FireWire port of your Mac, but that means that you have to be at your machine in order to start the backup. The new version of the software allows for incremental backups to be done automatically using AppleScript.
Scheduled backups will be available as part of the application interface at Macworld San Francisco 2003, company officials told MacCentral.
The pocket-sized ABSplus is available for the Macintosh in capacities of 20GB, 30GB, 40GB and 60GB at a starting price of US$299. The ABSplus for Desktops is currently available for the Macintosh in capacities of 40GB, 80GB, 120GB and 160GB at a starting price of $299.
