Sonnet Technologies Inc. announced a bundle deal that combines its HARMONi G3 500MHz processor upgrade for iMacs along with an 80GB FireWire-based external hard drive.

The HARMONi upgrade is aimed at Rev A-D iMacs — Bondi Blue and fruit-colored systems with tray loading CD-ROM drives. So what’s the point of bundling a FireWire drive along with them, given that these systems don’t include FireWire? Well, the HARMONi upgrade is more than just a CPU improvement — it also includes a FireWire interface that’s accessible through your iMac’s side access panel.
The 80GB external FireWire drive is a FireDrivePlus model made by all4DVD. The system encloses a 7200RPM hard disk drive made by IBM equipped with 2MB cache. The drive uses the Oxford 911 chipset, and is 100 percent compatible with the HARMONi and Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X.
The new bundle, Sonnet part number HAFW-G3-500-HD, is priced at US$449.95, $100 less than you’d expect to pay for the HARMONi and the hard drive separately. It’s compatible with tray-loading iMacs running at 233MHz, 266MHz, and 333MHz.
