Formac’s devideon superdrive is an external DVD-R/CD-RW FireWire-based optical drive that comes bundled with Formac’s own proprietary DVD authoring software. The devideon uses the Pioneer A05 mechanism, which provides the ability to write DVD-Rs at 4x speed. The drive is now available for US$399 — a drop of $150 from its previous price.
The Formac CDRW 40 is a CD-RW optical drive with 40x write, 12x rewrite and 48x read capability. The price on the drive is now $159. It comes bundled with Roxio’s Toast LE burning software, and utilizes BURN-Proof to help prevent buffer underruns that can cause high-speed CD-RW drives to produce “coasters,” or useless CD-Rs.
