Apple’s flat panel iMac and iPod are finalists in the 19th annual Awards for Technical Excellence by PC Magazine . The awards recognize “individuals and products that have advanced the state of technology and set new standards for technical innovation in 2002.”
This year’s awards will be chosen from 33 products in 11 categories. The winners, chosen by PC Magazine’s editorial staff and lab analysts, will be announced on Monday, November 18, at The Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, during Fall Comdex.
The iMac is a finalist in the “Desktop PC” category. It’s competing against the HP Media Center PC and NEC PowerMate eco. The iPod is in the running for best “Mobile Device.” Competitors are the Handspring Treo Communicator Family and T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition.
Also, the Nvidia GeForce 4 family of graphics processors, used in several Mac models, are nominated for “Components” of the year.
