Having trouble remembering how to produce that unusual character with the right key combination? Angelo Scicoline has the answer with XChar 3.0, a new version of the shareware utility.

XChar displays a window containing all the characters your Mac can show — when you need one, you drag and drop it where you need it. You can reduce the window to a small icon when you’re not using it. It’s an application, so it doesn’t muck about with system resources.
XChar 3.0 has been completely rewritten, according to the developer, and supports Classic Mac OS (with CarbonLib installed) as well as Mac OS X. It’s faster and more responsive, and sports new features too.
New features in XChar 3.0 include the ability to display HTML codes for special characters. It also sports support for palette translucency in OS X and has a number of minor bugs fixed.
XChar 3.0 is a US$10 shareware application. More details and download links are available above.
