Open source development Web site Sourceforge.net has named Fink its SF.NET Project of the Month for November.

The Fink project purports to “bring the full world of Unix Open Source software to Darwin and Mac OS X.” Folks involved with the Fink project modify Unix software to compile and run on Mac OS X and make it available for distribution.
For experienced Unix users who are underwhelmed by the command line tools included with Mac OS X, Fink expands that list by providing enhanced tools along with a selection of (X11) graphical applications developed for Linux and other Unix variants.
Fink has been developed to be as flexible as possible. You can download a binary installer, which contains precompiled, ready to run software, or you can download the source code itself, which also contains Fink-specific patches and build instructions.
More details are available from the Fink Web site.
