Jedi Knight II is a 3D action game set in world of the enormously popular Star Wars movies. The game follows Kyle Katarn, a Jedi-turned-mercenary who must once again regain and use his Force powers to stop a new threat to the fragile New Republic.
Players explore Star Wars locales like Cloud City, the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4, Nar Shaddaa, the smuggler’s moon and more. You’ll get your hands on Star Wars weaponry including stun batons, blast pistols and blaster rifles, and, eventually, a Jedi Knight’s trademark — the Light Saber. There’s more too: You’ll also have to use Force powers to push, jump, employ mind tricks and more. The game is based on the same underpinnings that power Id Software’s popular 3D shooter Quake III Arena. Like that game, it features both single and multiplayer modes.
Developed originally by Raven Software and published for the PC by LucasArts, Jedi Knight II was licensed by Aspyr and ported by Westlake Interactive. Aspyr’s news follows a similar report from LucasArts that the GameCube and Xbox versions of Jedi Knight II have gone gold (the Windows version was released earlier this year). Those conversions are expected to hit store shelves in November.
Aspyr director of PR and marketing Amy Torres told MacCentral that Jedi Knight II should hit store shelves by the end of the month, with November 1 pegged as the “drop dead” date by which all retails should have it. Jedi Knight II carries a suggested retail price of $49.95.
System requirements for Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast call for a PowerPC G3/400 or faster processor; Mac OS 9.1 or later, including Mac OS X 10.1 or later; 128MB RAM; 4x CD-ROM; 665MB HD space; and ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce2 graphics acceleration or better.
