Copenhagen, Denmark-based BitEngines, which bills itself as “the only Mac based SSL (Secure Socket Layer) provider,” today announced the launch of QualitySSL, its own brand of security solutions. The company is also offering special promotions on 1-year SSL certificates.

SSL certificates are “digital credentials” used to enable e-commerce Web sites to perform secure customer transactions using standard security protocols. QualitySSL is BitEngines’ own branded SSL certificate service. QualitySSL certificates are 128-bit, and sport 99 percent browser compatibility, according to the developer, which likens them as similar to what you’d buy from Verisign and Thawte, two companies that offer more expensive SSL certification.
BitEngines said that each certificate is issued following “a stringent validation procedure” where domain name ownership and “the legitimacy of the company” are both checked. And because of the company’s Mac-friendliness, their customer support staff can assist Mac Webmasters who want to deploy SSL encryption on Mac-based WebSTAR and Apache Web servers.
For a limited time, 1-year QualitySSL certificates are available for US$25, compared to the $125 you’d ordinarily pay.
