The Cutting Edge Software subsidiary of Mobility Electronics Inc. has released Quickoffice 6.1 for Mac OS X. Quickoffice allows users to view and edit Microsoft Office X files on PalmOS handhelds.

Quickoffice features a suite of productivity applications that include the Quicksheet spreadsheet, Quickword word processor and Quickchart graphing module. It offers synchronization with Mac desktops using drop-down menu add-ins for both Excel and Word. Quickoffice makes a copy of files to be synchronized to handhelds. It doesn’t modify original files and eliminates the risk of removing any formatting or elements in the original file, according to Michael Compeau, Cutting Edge Software’s vice president of business development and planning.
Quickoffice for Mac, which retails for US39.95, requires Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager version 4.0 or later and any handheld running Palm OS 3.0 or later. Support for the company’s Quickpoint solution for Microsoft PowerPoint compatibility and integration will be offered in an upcoming version of Quickoffice Pro for Mac.
