Blizzard Entertainment released a new version of its popular “role playing strategy game” for Mac and Windows, Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos.

Unlike the last point release offered in October, this new version doesn’t sport any Mac-specific performance enhancements, but there are a multitude of changes for users who play Warcraft III online, including fixes for problems related to shared unit control, the display of experience points, and graphics issues related to the ladder profile and scroll bar.
What’s more, dozens of balance changes have been made to the game’s four races — Humans, Orcs, Night Elves and Undead — to help improve the flow of online gaming. Several map changes have also been implemented.
For now, Warcraft III version 1.04 is only available by connecting to Battle.net, Blizzard’s online gaming service. The new version will be automatically downloaded and installed when you connect. If history is any indication, a standalone installer for the Mac should be available at some point in the near future, as well.
