Hitachi America Ltd. has introduced a new 17-inch LCD monitor, the CML174, that the company claims has almost half the response time of any other flat panel monitor on the market.

The display is due in early November at a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$699. It’s Mac compatible (though some Macs may require a monitor adapter).
The CML174 has a 12 millisecond rise and 4 millisecond fall time compared to a pixel response time 30ms for the average flat panel display, said Leslie Bishop, marketing communications manager of the Hitachi America Ltd. monitor group. Gamers and those into animation can now enjoy faster motion, he added. The display — which delivers a 17-inch viewing area — 388 x 270 mm — sports a 16mm bezel on each side with an auto-adjust function. The CML174 comes with 160 degree horizontal and vertical viewing angles as well as a pixel pitch of .264.
The CML174 has inputs for 15-pin D-sub and DVI-D connectors. It delivers 260 nit brightness and a 400:1 contrast ratio with a prime recommended resolution of 1280×1024 at 75 or 60Hz. It comes in an ivory or black cabinet.
