M-Audio is adding a new member to their line of MIDIsport USB MIDI interfaces: the MIDIsport 2×4. It’s a compact, multi-port, bus-powered MIDI interface for USB-equipped Macs and PCs.
Due later this month at a suggested retail price of US$179.99, it’s targeted to laptop users and will ship with drivers for Mac OS 9.1 and higher, including Mac OS X.
The MIDIsport 2×4 boasts two separate 16-channel input ports that allow systems to accept up to 32 discrete MIDI input channels. Four individual 16-channel output ports can address up to 64 discrete MIDI output channels.
MIDISPORT 2×4’s independent bus architecture lets users go beyond the MIDI spec’s limit of 16 channels, said Adam Castillo, M-Audio’s marketing director. The direct connection of MIDI devices also helps eliminate the sluggish timing delays inherent in daisy-chaining MIDI devices via MIDI Thru ports, he added. You can expand your set-up by plugging in additional MIDISPORT units for more MIDI ports.
