Installer VISE maker MindVision Software has announced two new software applications aimed at Mac OS X developers looking for software installation tools: FileStorm and FileStorm Pro.

MindVision said that both applications are built from the ground up as Unix/Mac OS X Aqua applications and take advantage of the latest advances in Mac OS X technology. The apps offer a visual user interface that can be used to create customized disk image files (.DMG files). What’s more, FileStorm and FileStorm Pro offer built-in CD burning capabilities. Developers can customize the look and feel of their disk images with customized backgrounds and precision icon placement, along with other features.
FileStorm Pro adds additional tools to the simple drag and drop interface used by the basic FileStorm package. Installers can be customized with Read Me files, license agreements, multimedia files and more.
FileStorm’s basic architecture is open and extensible, according to MindVision. Project files, for example, are plain text XML documents that are self-documenting and can be edited by hand. This way, FileStorm installers can be integrated with source code control systems. FileStorm Pro installers are Cocoa Application Bundles, too. FileStorm is also fully scriptable, according to the developer.
MindVision Chief Architect Steve Kiene said that now his company has addressed the needs of Installer VISE’s “large customer base,” they’re turning their attention to new vistas. Now that we’ve done that, we are able to focus on building all new, low-cost software delivery tools to address the needs of the thousands of new developers that Apple has brought to the OS X platform,” said Kiene.
FileStorm is available for US$19.95 and FileStorm Pro costs $79.95. Demo versions are available.
