FirewireDirect.com is now taking pre-orders for its new UltraBURN II FireWire DVD-R/RW recording external drive. The new drive sports Pioneer’s DVR-A05/105 mechanism. The company expects to ship the drive by November 15.

In addition to a FireWire-only configuration, FirewireDirect.com is also offering the drive in a combo chassis with FireWire and USB 2.0 interfaces. Both of them come bundled with DVD recording software for Mac OS and Windows — Discribe is included for Mac users, for both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X.
The UltraBURN II supports 4x writing with new high-speed DVD-R media, and 2x rewriting with high speed DVD-RW media. It can also burn CD-Rs at 16x and CD-RWs at 8x. The drive reads DVD-ROM and DVD Video formats, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, Photo CD and audio CD.
The FireWire-only drive starts at US$399; the FireWire/USB combo drive costs $439. Bundles with 25 packs of media are also available.
