Apple on Thursday posted an update for several configurations of the Power Mac G4 equipped with a SuperDrive. The update addresses several issues.
The update will install new firmware on the SuperDrive that specifically addresses an incompatibility with 4x DVD-R and 2x DVD-RW media, and the 2x SuperDrive in the Power Mac G4. “You must perform this update if you intend to use 4x DVD-R or 2x DVD-RW media in your Power Mac G4,” said Apple in the release notes.
The second issue addressed with the update is the ability to eject audio CDs that are copy-protected or have mastering errors.
According to Apple, this update is required only for the Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio), the Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver) and the Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver 2002) with an internal Apple SuperDrive. The update is available via the Software Update control panel in Mac OS 10.2 Jaguar.
Apple posted a similar update for the 15-inch iMac on October 23, correcting many of the same issues.
