Storage peripheral maker Fantom Drives has released its Premier FireWire 52x CD-RW, which it bills as “the fastest burner yet.” The new drive is available now for Windows and Macintosh and comes with software.

The external FireWire drive sports the ability to burn CD-Rs at up to 52x and CD-RWs at up to 24x speeds. It can also read CD-ROMs “in excess” of 52x speed. The drive features BurnProof buffer underrun protection to help prevent the creation of “coasters,” or CD-Rs burnt incompletely because of a failure to get enough data in time during the burning process.
The new Premier drive sports the Oxford Semiconductor Oxford 911 FireWire bridge chipset, and is compatible with Mac OS 8.6 or later. It ships with a version of Roxio Toast for Mac and Nero CD for Windows, and includes a cable, power supply and documentation.
The new Fantom Drives Premiere 52x CD-RW carries a suggested retail price of US$189.95.
