Ghost Recon Game of the Year Edition is a squad-based tactical strategy game created by Red Storm Entertainment and published for the PC by Ubi Soft. Set in the near future, you assume command of an elite force of soldiers who infiltrate hot zones around the world to help defuse situations before the get out of control. The game is inspired by the popular work of techno-thriller author (and Mac enthusiast) Tom Clancy, who owns Red Storm Entertainment.
The Game of the Year Edition combines the original Ghost Recon together with Desert Siege, an expansion pack. Ghost Recon puts you in Russia as hardline Communists hope to revive the Soviet Union; you must do whatever it takes to keep them at bay. Desert Siege takes you to the East African country of Eritreya after an invasion from neighboring Ethiopia that threatens the stability of lucrative Red Sea shipping lanes.
In Ghost Recon, you must carefully plan your missions, hand-picking your team of specialists, equipping them with realistic military hardware, and then joining them as they’re deployed in a real-time 3D environment, commanding each group and executing each mission objective flawlessly. Unlike first person shooters, one shot most often means one kill, both for you and your enemy, so stealth and precision is absolutely vital. Ghost Recon sports both extensive single player and multiplayer modes, with some maps dedicated for multiplayer gaming.
System requirements call for a G3/450 or better; 128MB RAM (256MB for OS X); 1GB available hard disk space; and ATI RAGE 128-based video system with 16MB VRAM or better. It runs natively in Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. Ghost Recon Game of the Year Edition costs US$49.95.
