Planar Systems Inc. has added two new 17-inch flat panel LCD displays to its line of PL monitors. The new displays are the PL171M and the PL170.

The PL171M features analog and digital (DVI-D) inputs. It has a brightness of 250 cd/m2 and a contrast ratio of 350:1, and sports a native resolution of 1280 x 1024 pixels. Its response time is measured at about 25ms and it has a 150 degree horizontal and 125 degree vertical viewing angle. The PL 171M also sports an “ultra-slim” bezel design and integrated speakers. It’s available in black, white or silver finishes. The display costs US$559.
With a similar case design, the PL170 looks like and sports many of the same features as the PL171M. It has 1280×1024 resolution, the same viewing angle, brightness and contrast ratio, and more, but it has no integrated speakers and features analog-only input. It’s $40 less, however, costing $519.
Both displays come with color coded cables and one-touch adjustment features. They come with three-year warranties with 48 hour monitor replacement, have Kensington Security Slots for protection from theft, and are wall-mountable using VESA compatible 75 mm wall mount kits.
