The high-capacity update provides access to large drive mechanisms for FireWire users, while retaining compatibility with USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 users via the lower capacity limits of ATA-5. It’s thanks to a recently updated bridgeboard inside the DesktopGB chassis that this new capacity can be reached.
WiebeTech offers the DesktopGB is size ranges from a “user configurable” 0GB unit for US$139.95 to a 250GB unit for $559.95. All units are in stock.
Additionally, if you already have an older DesktopGB model and you’re interested in upgrading to the high-capacity version, WiebeTech offers an upgrade path for US$69.95. The upgrade provides a modified bridgeboard in the mechanism, making it possible for you later to remove the existing drive mechanism and replace it with a high-capacity one if you desire.
