French Mac software developer AppMac has released sVideo Monitor, a new Webcam application for Mac OS X users.

AppMac said that sVideo Monitor can work hand-in-hand with instant messaging applications like iChat as a videoconferencing tool, or independently as a remote video monitoring application. The software exports pictures and video, and works with DV cameras and Webcams.
AppMac’s information on which cameras sVideo Monitor works with is a bit spotty, but the Web site implies that the software will support any DV camera that works with iMovie, as well as any Webcam that Apple lists as Mac OS X-compatible — AppMac’s Web site points to Apple’s own Mac Products Guide for details.
sVideo Monitor is available for evaluation as a free download, and costs US$59 to register. The software is localized in both English and French and requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later.
