German image processing and 3D computer graphics software maker UZR GmbH & Co KG announced the release of UZR 3D Professional version 1.4. It’s an image-based modeling application that turns your Mac into a 3D scanner, according to the developer, who bills the software as “the first image based modeling software available both for Mac OS X and PC.”

UZR 3D Professional creates textured 3D models from standard photographs. Such models can be used for CAD, 3D modeling, animation and other tasks. The software supports various 3D export formats and can be used to produce Internet-ready artwork also.
Improvements in UZR 3D Professional 1.4 include new texturing features like optimal map generation, and the ability to render at any resolution; new calibration features including manual interaction and calibration accuracy measurement; the ability to import object image alpha channel data, which enables object masking via external image editing software; improved masking tools; and better UZR export.
UZR 3D Professional version 1.4 is a free upgrade for registered users. The full version of the software costs €516.38 plus VAT. System requirements call for a G4/733 or faster, Mac OS X 10.1.5 or higher; 800×600 resolution with 16 bit color; 30MB free hard drive space; OpenGL support; CD-ROM drive; and digital camera or Webcam.
