This past summer Blizzard Entertainment released Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos simultaneously for Mac and Windows. In all that time, however, there’s never been a playable demo of the game available for public consumption. Now there is.

Blizzard today announced the release of a playable Macintosh version of the Warcraft III demo that lets Mac users get a taste of the role-playing strategy title before they put down their money. The Mac version follows the PC demo version’s release earlier this week.
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos is the latest installment of Blizzard Entertainment’s popular strategy game series. The game returns players to the fantasy world of Azeroth, a land populated by humans and orcs who are pitted in a seemingly endless struggle. The Undead and Night Elves join the fray as a new evil is unleashed on the land. Players can participate in a single-player campaign that puts you in each different race’s role over time, or you can play online against other Mac and PC users alike through Battle.net, Blizzard’s own free online play service.
Rated “T” for “Teen” by the ESRB, the new installment of the Warcraft series is billed by Blizzard as a “role playing strategy” (RPS) game, as players focus their attentions on Heroes and small groups of soldiers and units than in past Warcraft games, although the manipulation of resources and the creation of strong offensive and defensive forces is still a vital part of a successful game.
The demo itself provides Warcraft neophytes with a two-mission tutorial featuring on of the game’s main Heroes, and also incorporates three all-new missions that follow the story of the Orcs’ journey to Kalimdor. What’s more, demo players can also play online through Battle.net.
System requirements for the demo call for Mac OS 9 or higher, or Mac OS X 10.1.3 or higher; G3/400 or better; 128MB RAM; 16MB ATI or Nvidia 3D graphics card; 120MB hard disk space.
