Ten new companies have joined the executive boards of the organization overseeing Java technology, following the completion this week of the Java Community Processes’ (JCP) annual elections.
Organized by Java creator Sun Microsystems Inc., the JCP handles development and approval of Java technical specifications. While membership in the group is open to any individual or organization interested in joining, a pair of executive boards guides the process and grants final approval on new specifications.
Elected to the Standard/Enterprise Edition Executive Committee were IONA Technologies Plc and Cisco Systems Inc. Joining as ratified members were BEA Systems Inc., Apple Computer Inc. and SAP AG.
Elected to the Micro Edition Executive Committee were Symbian Ltd. and Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB. Newly ratified members were Nokia Corp., IBM Corp. and Philips Electronics.
The JCP’s Standard/Enterprise Edition Executive Committee and Micro Edition Executive Committee each comprise 16 members: A permanent seat held by Sun, five elected positions and 10 positions nominated by JCP management and ratified by a membership vote. Executive committee members serve staggered, three-year terms. This year, three ratified seats and two elected seats were open on each of the executive committees.
