Plextor Corp. has a new portable PlexWriter 24/10/24 CD-RW drive that connects via USB. It’s compatible with Mac OS X and the traditional Mac operating system (Mac OS 8.6-9.x).
The drive features 24X CD-Write, 10X CD-Rewrite, and 24X-max CD-Read. It measures 5.55-x .87-inches x 6.73 inches, and weighs less than one pound. The PlexWriter, which has a manufacturers suggested retail price of US$199, features a 2MB data buffer and Digital Audio Extraction rates to a maximum of 24X and it supports a variety of CD writing modes, including Track-at-Once, Disc-at-Once, Session-at-Once, Multisession, and variable/fixed packet writing.
The PlexWriter 24/10/24U features Buffer Under-Run Proof technology. Using a slow source drive or attempting to perform multiple tasks while recording a CD can lead to buffer underrun errors that render the disc unusable, said Howard Wing, vice president of sales and marketing for Plextor. Buffer Under-Run Proof technology prevents buffer underrun errors, so end-users can multi-task by sending e-mail or surfing the Web while recording a CD, he added.
