Devideon is Formac’s own DVD-R authoring system — an external FireWire-based DVD recorder bundled together with authoring software. The hardware is based on Pioneer’s own DVR-A05 mechanism, the latest generation of DVD-R optical drives with the ability to burn DVDs at 4x speed. Devideon works on any G3 or faster Mac with FireWire installed from the factory, and functions in Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X. It’s priced at US$399.
Changes in the new Devideon x.2 software include a new interface that enables users to create their own DVD menus with drag and drop support for text, pictures, and movie chapters. PARENC support provides parallel encoding capabilities which enables the software to encode several chapters simultaneously to MPEG2. A customized screensaver for OS X also helps to enhance performance. Devideon x.2 also supports Super Video CD (SVCD) format.
The Devideon hardware and software is a proprietary bundle. You are required to have a Devideon drive in order to get the authoring software to function. More details are available from the Web site.
