Delta Tao Software Inc.
has announced the release of Spaceward Ho! 5, the latest major release of their Mac-exclusive turn based strategy game set in outer space. It’s the first version to run natively on Mac OS X.

In Spaceward Ho! you are tasked with expanding your space empire outward, mining planets and terraforming them to give your colonists new places to live. As your civilization’s resources and income increase, you can create mighty fleets to smite your enemies, invest in technology and other improvements, and explore new parts of space.
Delta Tao president Joe Williams said that his company gets more requests for a Windows version of Spaceward Ho! than any of their other games. “… we don’t care. We love Macintosh,” he said.
In addition to featuring “diabolical” computer-controlled characters, Spaceward Ho! 5 features Internet multiplayer support using Delta Tao’s own spacewardho.net server. It’s also flush with Delta Tao’s trademark offbeat sense of humor, with amusing graphics and unusual sound effects.
If you’re familiar with previous installments of the game, you’ll find new innovations in this version including AI support of tankers and biological ships, grouped fleets, multi-star paths, multi-way battles, attack stances, and other features.
Spaceward Ho! 5 supports Mac OS 8.6 or higher. You can download it and play the game as a demo version now. A registration code costs US$39.95, and Delta Tao also anticipates releasing a packaged CD version after Christmas for $49.95. Owners of previous versions can upgrade for $29.95.
