Game publisher Aspyr Media is bringing to the Macintosh yet another expansion pack for its popular hit, The Sims. This one, The Sims Unleashed, enables your Sims to keep pets.

The Sims, developed by SimCity creator Will Wright and published for the PC by Electronic Arts, is nothing less than a phenomenon. While previous Wright creations like SimCity focus on a grander scale, The Sims narrows your field of view specifically to simulated people, called Sims. You help them decorate their living areas, interact socially with other Sims, decided what to do for work and more.
The game has spawned a near-endless series of expansion packs that add new capabilities. Previous expansion packs have provided more accessories and living spaces for the Sims, or new social settings for them to interact in, places to visit on vacation, parties and more.
This installment enables your Sims to visit a pet store and come home with the pet they’ve (or perhaps you’ve) always wanted — a cat, dog, fish, bird, lizard — the choices are endless, according to Aspyr. That’s not all, either. The Sims Unleashed also adds bigger neighborhoods, with forty new residential and community lots with larger homes, parks, a new cafe, shops and a farmer’s market.
There’s more, too. Five new career tracks open up for your Sims with this new expansion pack, for a total of 50 new jobs. Your Sims can be fashion designers or pet walkers, run away and join the circus, and more. There are also 150 new objects to decorate your Sims’ homes with, too.
Preliminary system requirements for The Sims Unleashed call for Mac OS 8.6 or higher, G3/233MHz or faster, 192MB RAM, 2MB VRAM, 750MB available hard drive space.
Aspyr expects the game to ship this month. The company’s Project Status page currently lists it as being in Beta.
