The DesktopGB+ is an aluminum-clad enclosure that uses Oxford Semiconductor’s popular OXFW911 FireWire bridge technology. WiebeTech sells the DesktopGB+ in configurations ranging from a 0GB do-it-yourself model (install your own drive mechanism) up to a 200GB model. Prices range from US$139.95 to $479.95 depending on capacity.
The DesktopGB+’s lack of need for a fan means that the new enclosure is quieter than past offerings from WiebeTech. It also includes two FireWire ports on the back, so you can connect other FireWire peripherals to the DesktopGB+ without losing a FireWire port on your Mac. The chassis opens with the removal of two screws. It also comes with Mac Drive 5 software, which enables Windows PCs to read the Mac-formatted drive.
