Portable TapeStor Travan USB 2.0 bundled solutions are available with a 20 GB or 40 GB tape drive from Seagate Removable Storage Solutions, a manufacturer of computer tape drive and tape head products.
It provides users with a external backup solution for systems from notebooks to high-performance workstations and Mac systems with backup speeds of up to 14.4 GBs per hour. The suggested manufacturer’s retail price for the Seagate TapeStor Travan 20 USB 2.0 is US$439. For the TapeStor Travan 40 USB 2.0, it’s $589.
The Seagate TapeStor Travan USB 2.0 is a bundled solution containing a Hornet 20 or Hornet 40 tape drive, one Seagate-certified data cartridge, an install poster, a USB Tape Resource CD with multilingual install manual and Dantz Retrospect Express backup software for both Mac and Windows, a vertical mounting stand, all required installation hardware including power supply and certified USB cable. A lightweight, small form-factor allows for easy portability between different systems or locations, according to Bob Hawkins, director, product line management for Seagate Removable Storage Solutions.
Both the TapeStor Travan 20 GB and 40 GB tape drives incorporate Seagate’s FastSense technology feature that optimizes backup time by allowing the tape drive to throttle its speed up or down to match the computer system’s resources. They’re compatible with both the traditional Mac operating system and Mac OS X. Though they’re USB 2.0 drives, they’re backwards compatible with USB 1.1.
