PrimeBase SQL 4.0 has a long history on the Mac. However, the Mac OS X version was just a port from the Unix version, which required a more “geek like” terminal approach to installation and administration, according to Robert Garcia of
BigHead Technology, an authorized North American reseller of PrimeBase SQL.

For this reason,
Snap Innovation, in conjunction with BigHead Technology, has updated their PrimeBase SQL product with a complete GUI (graphical user interface) installation, and a GUI administration tool. To promote this advancement, BigHead Technology is offering discounts on the product. A 15-connection license is normally US$1,120, but is on sale now for $499.00. An unlimited connection license — normally $3,900 — is now available for $999.
In addition, Garcia told MacCentral that BigHead Technology is offering several additions to the product at no extra cost. These additions, also free to existing PrimeBase 4.0 users, include:
A full featured plug-in for RealBasic to use PrimeBase as the backend database.
An ODBC driver that’s fully functional with iODBC 3.5. Since iODBC 3.5 is a free GUI ODBC manager for Mac OS X, there are no hidden costs to running PrimeBase as your database server, Garcia said.
